On 3rd February 2026, CUTS Consumer Welfare Officer, Mr. Victor Sikombe, appeared on Crown TV to present CUTS’ position on the announcement by over 30 manufacturing companies under the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) to reduce prices across various sectors. CUTS commended manufacturers for responding positively to the improving macroeconomic environment, marked by the appreciation of the Kwacha.
Mr. Sikombe stated that CUTS welcomes this development as a progressive step toward easing the cost-of-living burden on consumers. However, while these price reductions are a move in the right direction, CUTS notes with concern that the cost of basic goods and services remains largely unaffordable for many consumers.
