FOOD SAFETY AND NUTRITION

On 20th January 2026, CUTS Board Member Mr. Sajeev Nair featured on Millennium Radio to discuss critical food safety issues in Zambia.

During the programme, Mr. Nair emphasised the urgent need for a dedicated Food Safety Agency to strengthen oversight and accountability across the food value chain. He highlighted the importance of effective coordination among regulatory institutions, noting that fragmented regulation weakens enforcement and compromises consumer safety. He further stressed the need for consistent implementation of food safety regulations, enhanced public sensitisation, and expanded testing of food products to ensure compliance with safety standards and protect public health.

The same programme also featured Ms. Marjory Chilufya, a representative from CSO SUN, who spoke on food safety and nutrition issues in Zambia. Ms. Chilufya emphasised the strong link between food safety and nutrition, highlighting the importance of nutritious, safe, and quality food in improving health outcomes, particularly among the populations.
