Zambia to set up additional 300 towers to improve connectivity

Lusaka, Zambia – July 23, 2024: The Zambian government has announced plans to set up 300 communication towers by the end of 2024 to enhance connectivity and internet penetration across the country. Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati stated that this initiative, in collaboration with mobile phone providers and private partners, aims to boost the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. Speaking at the inaugural ICT consumer dialogue forum in Lusaka, organized by the Zambia Information Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) on 23 rd July 2024, Mr. Mutati emphasized the government’s commitment to making online services accessible and ensuring digital literacy to protect citizens from potential risks.

“With the completion of these 300 communication towers, we are not just increasing connectivity; we are improving the quality of life for our citizens. Access to the internet means access to education, healthcare, and financial services, which are crucial for consumer welfare,” said Mr. Mutati. He also urged ZICTA to propose measures to enhance internet safety, address concerns about scammers and those who spread hate speech online.
